Gold!
The 21st Winter Olympic Games closed in Vancouver last night. What a party the last 17 days have been! Legacies abound, but for my country, the energy and results have generated something palpable will hopefully last for some time to come. Canada ended up the competition with a gold win in men's ice hockey (the most prized of all!) which left us with 14 gold medals -- more than any country at any previous Winter Olympic competition and host nation, and 26 in total -- two more than Torino and the most ever by Canada. There were hundreds of thousands of people out on the streets and collecting at Granville and Robson to celebrate the achievements of the thousands of athletes that came to visit. Not bad for a small backwater country, eh?
