Rubber Recon: Mission Stretchable

Mission Three: Acquiring Target Through Hostile Territory

Rubber soldier is air-dropped into hostile territory. His mission: to traverse a large expanse of wilderness towards a communications tower in order to shut down the signal scrambler that is preventing ally communications from getting through. His impermeable latex suit allows him to cross any obstacle on land or water while protecting him from the elements. Due to the possibility of airborne or waterborne contamination by the enemy, he must continuously wear his suit and his respirator.

Hi Reid,
All I can say is WOW....if I saw you in the woods I think my first reaction would be to run like hell!
But then I think that'd be a reaction by most people who saw you in your gear at a time when they least expect to see someone fully rubbered and wandering through the woods.I think the gun would probably be the thing I would be nervous most.
You look ABSOLUTELY amazing!!
I SO wish that I lived nearby you,I think you would have a very horny English guy as a stalker.;))
regards Duncan.

Funny story....the first setting for the pics was on a National Park boundary. As I was finishing up, I heard a shotgun go off.

This made my exit out of the park pretty quick! Having been mistaken for a wild animal would have been very unfortunate, especially if I was discovered in a skintight rubber suit by a hunter!

So between the shotgun blasts, woodticks and mosquitoes, it was an interesting session. I'm just glad the pictures turned out so well!

Awesome picture set Reid, you definitely look the part! I like how you painted out the lenses on your mask too, very cool.

The only thing I would say is that the gun looks a little undersized. I'm no weapons expert, but the geek in me would like to see you with some sort of custom side arm befitting the rest of the outfit. Something based on a real pistol/smg but with some sort cool slick black metal casings, sort of semi-sci-fi.

Anyway, good stuff. There was video you say? :D

I photoshopped the lenses in after suggestions from Patrick. As much as I'd like to put polarized black lenses into a gasmask hood (wouldn't that be cool?), I don't have the means right now. And yes, the guns....they're cheap toys. I'd love to get something more realistic looking, something else to work on.

I have video clips of me crashing through the bush that I will edit together for a different perspective, hopefully by the end of the week.

The STR suit broke again...in the same spot above the zipper in the rear....as I was finishing the second shoot. I've sent it off to Nottingham this morning. I hope we can come to some sort of good conclusion on why this keeps happening. I told the STR guys that I would be putting some sort of reinforcement in that spot if they didn't do it. Not sure if the tear is even repairable...I guess we'll find out what will happen next once they receive it and give it a look over.

It hasn't happened anytime while the suit is still initially lubed up, only after an extended wear. I posed the possibility that it might be due to the water-based lube breaking down and only a layer of sweat providing the lubrication at that particular point. The seam just above the zipper would obviously be a stress point when bending over, etc.

Anyways, we'll wait and see. In the meantime, I have video to edit.

Oh shoot, that sucks! I hope they can fix it for you. My suit started to develop a small tear in the same place just above the zipper in the rear. Luckily I caught it in time and they patched it for me. However I am aware that this is the area on the suit under the most stress and also that the latex here seems to have become thinner due to wear or stretching. You can even see that the black colouring is greyer in that area.
I think it's only a matter of time before my suit fails dramatically. It's just one of those things I guess, one of the downsides to having such a tight and well-fitting suit.

I think that makes reinforcing that particular spot even more paramount. I love that suit too much to let it go!!!!

Hi Reid,
Let us hope that you get the suit back.....I love seeing you in such tight latex too.
I did have a suit (not the same one as you)and mine failed after time.there must be a way of making the suit slightly thicker at the stress points. After all...the manufactures and designers of the suits should(by now) have received coments about the wear and tear of latex and have tested them?
I've watched your new vid and think you look really brilliant in it.Not being a gun expert..I didnt realise that the weapon you carried was a fake(duhh).I just thought the effect was enough.
regards Duncan.
