Planning a Rubber Event

The intention is to help organize (or maybe fully organize?) a rubber night at the Calgary Eagle sometime in the next six months. I'm completely open to any idea at this point. Some of the things I've been considering are:

Demos/classes? For a rubber night, I'm thinking demos -- vac-rack, hogsack, vac-cube -- if I can get my hands on the last two...
Possibly a fashion show?
Draws for prizes? Donations? Sponsorships?
I could talk to Will in Chicago to see what he thought about offering MIR weekend tickets as part of an event. Or whether Priape would like to sponsor something.

Bondage and discipline? We could do some B&D if the right (and properly experienced) people could be found to demonstrate.

Instead of having 'Leather Nights' like the Eagle typically does, I'd like to see either a 'Fetish Night' or 'Rubber Night'. I'd even be open to having a 'Gear Night' and encourage guys to come out in lycra and sports gear in addition to rubber if that would interest people.

Dates: The manager of Priape would like to see a rubber night done in late September in conjunction with Mr Calgary Leather (this could also be a good precursor to MIR (hey! An 'MIR Preparty'?). He suggested the Friday night with the contest Sat.

I'd prefer to do it on a Friday or Saturday, but there was also a suggestion of Sunday afternoon classes/evening demos.

What do you think?

A *BIG* problem with getting people to come out to the bars for any themed bar night is the fact that many people don't feel welcome because they don't have gear. There are so many people that don't go to IML because they say "I don't own any leather"... and you saw the variety of fetish gear at IML. I'm sure you know what I mean. My suggestion to you is to encourage everyone to attend your event, even those who don't own the themed gear. Let them know that Neoprene, Spandex, Under Armour, wrestling singlets are also welcome. "Wear something TIGHT and SHINY" is what I tell the rubber newbies. By doing this, you make them feel welcome to the event... and ... introduce them to rubber. ;-)

Thanks for the advice, Ruff. In fact, I'm communicated interest in starting a 'gear night' -- something that would be attractive to all sorts -- hockey, football equipment and uniforms, lycra, latex, leather, whatever. There are far too many varieties out there in a city this size that you can only be inclusive of a particular interest. I think it would be a lot of fun!

That being said, we are planning a rubber night the Friday before Mr. Calgary Leather in September that will include contests, demos, possibly a market and fashion show. Should be a fun weekend!

It will hopefully make more people feel comfortable that they can come out and show off whatever turns them on. Like you said, in order to get people to show interest you need to give them a reason to show up. Hopefully by expanding the horizons, more people will turn out!
