Olivia Newton-John played at the PNE here in Vancouver on Monday night, and this inspired me to find a bunch of her old music online and also led me to browse some old John Travolta stuff (BTW: she was AMAZING for an old bag....she's the same age as my mom!). Here is the film intro montage for 'Stayin' Alive'. I remember this so well from my youth; all those gratuitous male crotch and ass shots and hot sweaty men in tights. Has there been another movie since then that was so homoerotic and mainstream? I think THAT film genre fizzled out with the prudish Reagan years.
Another one of those 'salient moments' on my budding homo and perviness path? Perhaps. It was also the period when John Travolta was openly gay....*sigh*

Closed System Repost Update
I just received an email from s21x latex this morning letting me know that the system in his video was made by Rubberfusion in the UK. However he hasn't had contact with them for quite awhile and it appears they no longer have custom breathing systems advertised on their site, though they carry Studiogum equipment so I'm sure they can still put stuff together.
Does anyone know of any companies/individuals in the U.S. or Canada that are making similar respirator and rebreather systems? I'd prefer to find something non-eBay, though if someone can suggest some reputable store, I'd be willing to investigate. It would seem to me that a completed system would be cheaper than buying all the parts for it individually...

Closed System Repost
I love love love this video. There are just so many things I agree with here. Can you believe I originally posted this over three years ago? Holy cow, time flies.
I would pay someone well to put this breathing system together for me.

I just really, really like this video. I have attempted the same activity in the past, it is way more than fun, it is zen-inspiring.

From The Archives
by Cyrique Lamar
Science fiction pioneer Hugo Gernsback wasn't simply the founder of Amazing Stories, the first scifi periodical — he was also a prolific inventor and futurist who regaled past generations with zany visions of Dalek-like killing machines and computer-mandated marriage examinations.
And Gernsback's greatest contribution to office culture was "The Isolator," a sound-proof helmet that was so airtight it required its own oxygen tank. Imagine the nonstop comedy if these were implemented widespread today.
Gernsback revealed this device in the July 1925 issue of Science and Invention magazine, which included a photo of the inventor himself demonstrating its productivity-boosting qualities.I absolutely love how superfluous the fan and telephone are in the context of this illustration.
Never mind the fact that this semi-phallic helmet looks excruciatingly hot, rivals the Mickey Mouse gas mask in terms of creepiness, or that one runs the risk of asphyxiating during a moment of gasp-inducing brilliance. The Isolator was the true face of diligence.
